Job Function / Purpose

  • Performs analysis, modification and design of products for assigned projects delivering innovative and commercially successful solutions.  Prepares and completes master drawings, technical documentation and specifications to accomplish the design intent and manufacturability of company’s products.  

Essential Duties

  • Apply sound design logic and judgment to create innovative solutions to design problems, complex equipment and design layouts of related downhole tool components, assemblies and systems 
  • Use skills and experience in a collaborative manner with Repair and Maintenance, Operations and other functional groups to solve technical issues as they arise and to improve and innovate Engineering Department projects 
  • Develop and oversee component as well as system level functional and environmental testing development for various products 
  • Apply experience in manufacturing, production processes, operations and maintenance practices to product designs 
  • Analyze engineering sketches, specifications and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape and arrangement of parts 
  • Perform engineering calculations and design checks in order to meet application requirements and verifies all calculations to minimize errors 
  • Responsible for detailed multi-view drawings of machine parts, subassemblies and final assemblies 
  • Determine and verify component tolerance for proper function of equipment in the downhole environment  
  • Assemble and check parts/models for accuracy and proper fit 
  • Responsible for the quality of all aspects of the design documentation for Gyrodata, Inc.’s products including but not limited to drawing creation, test report writing, procedures and manuals, test plans, etc. 
  • Optimize design to maximize cost containment, efficiency and profitability of operations 
  • Be a key member to address field failures and drive implementation of corrective actions to eliminate the failure. 
  • Develops new ways to manufacture or repair components, parts, or sub-assemblies for lower cost or faster delivery of products. 
  • Advise, assist and mentor Mechanical Engineer I 
  • Other duties and projects as assigned 

HSE Function

  • Comply with applicable safety standards and maintain a safe working environment
  • Establish and maintain a culture that emphasizes compliance with all health, safety and environmental standards and respect for co-workers, clients and community 
  • Oversee and enforce compliance in the Area with health, safety and environmental policies and procedures established by Gyrodata, Inc. and any applicable local laws 

QA Function 

 

  • Ensure all operations are completed to the clients' expectations and requests. 
  • Ensures area is equipped to support quality assurance policies and procedures as established by Gyrodata, Inc. in accordance with the ISO 9000 standard
  • Designate appropriate personnel to be assigned to all client events to relay SQ improvements and/or investigations.
  • Works with Gyrodata Service Quality leads to ensure proper SQ incident investigations are completed with resolution and assurance of no reoccurrence.
  • Comply with applicable quality assurance standards
  • Works with SQMS, GDMS and other Quality systems 

Required Qualifications

  • Strong written and oral English communication skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university with 3-7 years related experience and/or training; or combination of education and experience
  • Excellent math and algebra skills required for engineering calculations
  • Competency in using 3D CAD software
  • Familiarity with GD&T principles, ISO and API compliance regulations, codes and standards
  • Experience with oil field equipment, specifically downhole mechanical and electro-mechanical tools and systems
  • Ability to read, review and interpret manufacturing and mechanical designs, drawings and schematics
  • Ability to accurately produce manufacturing designs, drawings, schematics and other engineering documentation
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks, request information as needed and prioritize own work to ensure timely completion of all tasks
  • Ability to use a computer for accessing and sending e-mail, opening and revising documents, accessing internet and using web-based Gyrodata, Inc. systems, including SharePoint, Agresso and ability to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to proficiently use Solid Works CAD software
  • Familiarity in FMEA, DFM and DFR principles
  • Experience with various Product Data Management (PDM) systems
  • Experience with Rotary Steerable Systems, MWD equipment and mud motor systems
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

Working Conditions                                                     

The job is performed in an office environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards. The job requires some physical exertion, including sitting, standing, occasional light lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling. The job requires operation of standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, copiers, etc. The job requires following written and oral instructions, attention to detail, ability to multitask, ability to work with others and ability to meet deadlines.  The job requires following established policies and procedures, meeting quality and safety standards and regular attendance. The job requires making decisions based on experience and knowledge without supervision and requires responsibility for results.
